Department of Defence and Strategic Studies (DDSS)

The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies (DDSS) is one of the flourishing departments of Shri Shivaji Vidya Prasarak Sanstha’s Bhausaheb N. S. Patil Arts and M. F. M. A. Commerce College, Dhule. This department was established in June 1977 as Department of Military Studies, offering undergraduate General Level courses on military studies. In June 1979 the department started Special Level courses focusing more on research activities. The name of the department changed from Military Studies to Defence Studies. In 1984 with the expansion of scope of the discipline, the name of the department was changed to the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies .DDSS is expanding the horizon of discipline through research and innovation, and has inculcated thought provoking teaching. Since its inception, DDSS has been building up institutional knowledge about various aspects of India’s national security. DDSS is working towards imparting relevant and contemporary education, in the field of Security Studies, thereby nurturing human resources towards Sustainable Development. The core consideration behind this initiative is the need to substantively establish and expand high quality studies in national security. DDSS is functioning under KBCNMU’s College of Arts & Humanities.

SCOPE OF DEFENCE STUDIES

Defence Studies expose the individuals to an in-depth analysis of contemporary events and issues in this multilateral, unpredictable world. This provides the broad field within which Nations of States and non-state factors interact. An attempt is made to provide for both of theoretical understanding of how and why Nations behave as they do and also a historical survey of the Major Trends in World Affairs. It also includes an understanding of Indian Military History, The Defense Organization of India, India’s National Security, and the Economics of Defence.
